What are the different ways to waterproof your shower?

There are many different ways to waterproof your shower. To start with, sealant. Sealant is a product that is easily applied to the wall or tile and will provide a water-proof barrier. It’s best to use it on areas of the shower that have been previously painted. It’s also important to apply adhesive vinyl backing where the new sealant will be applied. The second way would be polyurethane paint. This type of paint is applied in the same way as silicone caulk, but it has more flexibility so it can expand and contract with changes in temperature and moisture levels. Lastly, shower wall panels. These can be placed on top of existing tiles, paint or bare bathroom walls and are placed with adhesive, and can be joined with trim to offer complete waterproof properties to your bathroom.

Waterproofing or Water- protecting?

Waterproofing is the process of making your bathroom or shower enclosure completely ‘watertight’, whereas water-protecting would be placing materials on top of your bathroom walls or floor in order to protect from the water damage, without it being a completely watertight system. Water protecting is most common in bathrooms, and shower enclosures however it is more beneficial for the future of your bathroom.

How to tell if your shower enclosure is waterproof already?
