Wall Panels – The Good and Bad

Naturally, many people can be apprehensive about initially using panels. But what I came across in my research is that they do add a polished finish that undeniably gives your bathroom a chic and stylish feel and more importantly you can utilise the panels in your own unique way. So you can create your own bespoke bathroom.

The Good:

Panels are significantly cheaper compared to other alternatives such as tiles. They have a longer lifespan and simple upkeep which makes them extremely cost effective.

One of the strongest aspects of panels is, no more grout! When it comes to tiles and bathrooms, households are plagued with grout and the battle of keeping it at bay. Bathroom panels eliminate this problem –  giving you an easy life (which is what we like to hear).

Bathroom panels will also protect your walls from condensation while providing insulation.

Let’s explain that quickly…

Panels are layered acrylic sheets that come in a range of different thicknesses from 5mm, 8mm, and 10mm that all have small shafts in between the layers.

In your home, heat flows freely between walls, ceilings, and floors because naturally, until there is no longer a difference in temperature heat will flow from warm areas to adjacent cooler areas.

So when panels are installed on your wall, floor or ceiling the shafts slow down the conductive heat flow and ultimately act as a barrier that retains the heat in the space.

Wall panels are perfect for families. They are an easily wipeable surface and are completely waterproof, which makes them an ideal material for walls that frequently get wet such as bathrooms and wet rooms (perfect for bath time antics).

Want a speedy and straightforward installation process?

Let’s introduce you to your perfect match, wall panels. They make for an ideal DIY activity – no fuss, no stress! All you need are adhesives, nails, and screws. But as always, we recommend seeking advice from us and assistance from your contractor. For more helpful tips check out our blog post on maintaining wall panels, we cover topics such as fixing, cleaning and removing panels.

The bad:

Once you go panel you never go back – Many bathroom designs feature a tile border acting as a sort of splashback from appliances such as taps and showers. These borders only cover up to half the wall – if this your ideal design then panels aren’t for you.

One of the main features of panels is that they can be custom-cut to fit your bathroom dimensions (so they must be mounted to the full height of your walls). This feature is convenient and one of the reasons why bathroom panels are so popular but it can be a downfall for a lot of people.

So make sure you consider all your options!

The World of Wall Panels

Compared to other materials such as tiles bathroom panels do not come with your usual wide array of patterns and textures.

However, the range of panels available does open up a new world of possibilities that you may not have considered yet (I hadn’t). There are stylish SPARKLE, timeless MARBLE, refined WOOD, classic STONE, modern TILE and BRICK effect panels in a variety of colours and sizes to suit any bathroom dimension. Giving you a perfect alternative to these often expensive materials.

These panels offer a more sustainable and cost-effective bathroom renovation while giving you as the buyer complete creative control to bring your ideal bathroom to life. Add a splash of marble to give your bathroom a luxurious lift, or add a hint of sparkle to brighten up a small space. The choice is yours!

Be Prepared

Most importantly when it comes to re-creating your bathroom and the use of bathroom panels make sure you explore all your options and find what style suits your needs and we will be more than happy to help fulfil your bathroom aspirations.

So how do you get prepared?

Measure the dimensions of your bathroom – this will give you, and your contractor a better understanding of your requirements and how can best utilise bathroom panels.
